Testing research capabilities

Try these prompts one at a time in Discord. Tap the copy icon beside a question, paste it into chat, then compare the answer with the checklist. Do not include unpublished structures or confidential research data in prompts.

  1. Patents: collection coverage.
“What does your patent library cover, and when was it last updated?”✓ Names the indexed subjects and gives the collection’s actual update date.
  2. Patents: a focused topic.
“What has been patented on hydrodeoxygenation of lignin-derived phenolics with NiMo or sulfided molybdenum catalysts since 2018?”✓ Patent numbers, dates, applicants, and record links.
  3. Papers (OpenAlex).
“Find 5 recent papers on guaiacol hydrodeoxygenation over NiMo catalysts, newest first.”✓ Titles, years, journals, and DOIs; then try “Give me the abstract of the first one.”
  4. Research synthesis (Consensus).
“Use Consensus: does sulfidation improve NiMo catalyst performance in hydrodeoxygenation?”✓ Balanced synthesis with paper references. Uses one of the 30 monthly searches.
  5. Molecules (PubChem).
“Look up guaiacol in PubChem: formula, molecular weight, boiling point, and safety hazards.”✓ Values with units and hazards attributed to the compound record.
  6. Materials (Materials Project).
“Get the phase diagram for the Ni–Mo system and list the stable compounds.”✓ Stable phases with Materials Project IDs; identify the results as computed.
  7. Adsorption (Open Catalyst).
“Using adsorption-energy data, how strongly does *OH bind on nickel compared with copper?”✓ Computed energies in eV, with facets (such as (111)) and source context.
  8. Reaction steps (Catalysis-Hub).
“Find reaction energies for CO₂ adsorption on Ni and Cu surfaces, and name the papers.”✓ Reaction energies labelled computed, in eV, with paper titles and DOIs when indexed.
  9. Combine sources.
“I’m planning experiments on lignin HDO with sulfided NiMo on alumina. Summarise what’s patented, what recent papers report, and any computed data on how phenolic compounds interact with Ni or Mo surfaces.”✓ Tools used are named; patents, papers, and computed data remain distinct and cited.
